Form 990-N is submitted electronically, there are no paper forms. An organization eligible to submit Form 990-N can instead choose to file Form 990 or Form 990-EZ to satisfy its annual reporting requirement.

In order to qualify to file Form 990-EZ, a nonprofit should have gross income of more than $50,000, but less than $200,000 during the past fiscal year. In addition, the total valuation of all assets should be less than $500,000.

Generally, the following do not have to file Form 990: Most faith-based organizations, religious schools, missions or missionary organizations. Subsidiaries of other nonprofits – those that may be covered under a group return filed by the parent organization. Many government corporations.

Because of the great differences between Forms 990 and 990-EZ, TaxSlayer Pro cannot change one to the other. If you have created one and wish to or need to switch to the other, you will need to delete the return and restart it using the correct form.

The full-length 990 form is required for nonprofits who gross $200,000 or more in total receipts, or total assets of $500,000 or more. The 990-EZ and 990-N are for nonprofits who grossed less during the year (over $50,000 in total gross receipts and under $50,000 respectively). The 990-PF is for private foundations.

If an organization has gross receipts less than $200,000 and total assets at the end of the year less than $500,000, it can file Form 990-EZ, instead of Form 990.
