Section 1 - Abandoned Property Abandoned property (ABV) is defined as any unattended motor vehicle, trailer, ATV, outboard motor, or vessel, whether or not operational, that is removed (or subject to removal) from public or private property.

The Missouri laws says that if a vehicle is left unattended for more than 24 hours on a public road outside an urban area, it is considered abandoned (ABV), and a towing company may remove it.

Motor Vehicles – Missouri law requires motor vehicles being towed by a towline not be separated more than 15 feet. In ad- dition to the towline, a safety chain or device is required. When being towed at night, lawful lights must be displayed on the tow vehicle and the vehicle being towed.

Abandoned Property Statute Missouri's statute on the abandonment of a leased premises, §441.065 RSMo., allows a landlord to remove the abandoned property of a tenant without liability to the tenant. However, the landlord must strictly follow the procedure of the statute.

Left unattended for more than 48 hours; • After four hours a law enforcement officer determines that the ABV is a serious hazard to other motorists; or • It is a safety hazard or interferes with the use of the private property as determined by a law enforcement officer.
