For planning purposes the zoning ordinance as it pertains to EFU, generally allows for only one single family dwelling unit, buildings accessory to a dwelling, and permitted agricultural buildings for animals and equipment as necessary to operate a farm.

“Farm” is defined to include any facility, including the land, buildings, watercourses and appurtenances thereto, used in the commercial production of crops, nursery stock, livestock, poultry, livestock products, poultry products, vermiculture products or the propagation and raising of nursery stock.

The purpose and intent of the Exclusive Farm Use (EFU) Zoning District is to conserve agricultural lands, consistent with the Goals and Policies of the Polk County Comprehensive Plan. This objective is achieved by establishing clear standards for the use and development of designated agricultural lands.

EFU zoned lands allow even more diverse today than historically, with such businesses as agri-tourism, events such as weddings and gatherings, and rodeos. EFU lands can also be developed as destination resorts, mines, schools, B&Bs, golf courses, and a myriad other uses, even solar power and wind utilities.

Resource lands in Klamath County include Exclusive Farm Use (EFU), Forest (F) and Forest Range (FR) zones. There is no guarantee a dwelling will be permitted on resource zoned land. In resource zones a dwelling may be approved through a “Conditional Use Permit” (CUP).
