The Kentucky Department of Revenue has set the maximum homestead exemption at $46,350 for the 2023 and 2024 tax periods.

What Homestead Exemption Means. Under the provisions of the Homestead Amendment, a person or persons must be 65 years of age or older or totally disabled during the year for which application is made, and must own and occupy a residential unit as of January 1 for that year.

The Homestead Exemption (based on age or disability status) allows taxpayers who are at least 65 years of age or who are totally disabled to receive an exemption. An application for the disability exemption must be made on an annual basis. The exemption for 2021 is $ 40,500.

Kentucky's Homestead Exemption for Property Owners By statute, the amount of the homestead exemption is recalculated every two years to adjust for inflation.
