Description: The Virginia Substitute Evaluation Program (VSEP) is an alternative method of assessing students who by the nature of their disability are unable to participate in the Standards of Learning (SOL) assessments even with testing accommodations.

Specific Verbal Prompts “Please continue with your test.” “Keep working.” Page 12 10 “Keep going.” “Focus.” “Stay focused.” All other verbal prompts must be approved by the Virginia Department of Education using the Special Assessment Accommodation Request form before the prompts are used on any SOL tests.

The Virginia Essentialized Standards of Learning (VESOL) are Reading, Mathematics and Science Standards of Learning that are reduced in depth, breadth and complexity to make them relevant, accessible and appropriate for students with significant cognitive disabilities.

The VGLA is designed for the population of students with disabilities enrolled in grades 3-8 who are unable to participate in the SOL assessments, even with accommodations, and who do not meet the participation criteria for the VAAP.
