What Happens After LMIA is Approved. After an LMIA application has been processed, employers will be issued a decision. If the employer is issued a positive LMIA, they can proceed with hiring a foreign national. If a negative LMIA is issued then unfortunately the employer is not approved to hire a foreign national.

LMIA application fee is $1,000 per employee. The employer is responsible for the application fees and associated legal service costs. For example, if the employer is willing to hire 5 foreign employees, the employer would have to file 5 separate LMIA applications.

We may refuse to process your Labour Market Impact Assessment application for any position if you have had an application revoked in the past two years for having provided false, misleading or inaccurate information.

Generally, this process takes three months. This includes one month of upfront advertising, before the application can be filed, and a further two months of government processing time, after filing. Only once the LMIA application is approved, can a work permit application be filed.
