Amount and Duration of Unemployment Benefits in Wisconsin Benefits are ordinarily available for up to 26 weeks, although this may be extended during periods of high unemployment. You must be able to work and available for full-time work to be eligible for unemployment insurance benefits. If you are sick with COVID-19 (or any other medical condition) to the extent that you can't work, then you would be ineligible for unemployment benefits due to being unable to work.

The weekly amount of unemployment benefits you are paid when you have no wages or other income during the week. It is 4% of the total high quarter wages from all covered employment in your base period.

Maximum Benefit Amount (MBA): Your MBA will be 26 times your WBR or 40% of your total base period wages from all covered employment – whichever is smaller. Your MBA is like a checking account balance. As you are paid UI during your benefit year, the amount paid is subtracted from your MBA balance until it reaches 0.

You may not receive UI if you: Left your job without good cause related to your job, Were fired for misconduct or substantial fault connected to your work, Refused work without good cause, or.

If you quit your job for any of the following reasons, you may be eligible to receive UI: Accepting a layoff in lieu of another employee. Quitting with good cause attributable to the employer. Quitting because your health left you with no reasonable alternative but to quit.

Amount and Duration of Unemployment Benefits in Wisconsin Your weekly benefit amount will be 40% of your average weekly wage, up to a maximum of $370 per week. The minimum weekly benefit is $54. Benefits are ordinarily available for up to 26 weeks, although this may be extended during periods of high unemployment.

The Republican-controlled Wisconsin Legislature voted June 9 to eliminate the $300-a-week federal bonus for unemployed people. The federal payment, approved to help the unemployed during the coronavirus pandemic, is scheduled to end on Sept. 6.

The minimum WBR is $54, requiring high quarter earnings of $1,350; and the maximum WBR is $370, requiring high quarter earnings of $9,250. If you do not have enough earnings for the minimum benefit rate, you do not qualify for unemployment benefits.
