The cost of adopting a wild horse from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM): $125. The amount of money the BLM is now proposing to give people to adopt a wild horse: $1,000. A wild horse's freedom: Priceless.

To encourage more adopters to give a wild horse or burro a good home, the Adoption Incentive Program provides up to $1,000 to adopt an untrained wild horse or burro from the BLM.

The AIP is intended to increase the number of adoptions of untrained wild horses and burros by offering financial incentives to defray costs associated with caring for a wild horse or burro, such as veterinary care, feed, and training.
