There are three types of supervision: administrative, clinical (also called educational supervision) and supportive supervision.

Writing in the context of social work supervision, Kadushin (1992) and Morrison (2003) whose focus is on the supervisor, acknowledge the three main functions/roles of supervision are educative, supportive and managerial.

Supervision should average one hour of individual or group supervision for every 20 hours of work, with a minimum of 150 total hours of supervision for the 3,000 hours of supervised social work practice. Supervision must be provided by an LISW-S (LISW with Supervision Designation) unless a hardship request is granted.

Supervision Hours Although LPC licensure in Ohio does not require any supervision for LPCs, it does require it of LPCCs, who need two years and a minimum of 3,000 hours of supervision, at a rate of at least 1,500 hours each year, for licensure.

Types of Supervision: Autocratic, Laissez-faire, Democratic and Bureaucratic Supervision! Types of supervision are generally classified ing to the behaviour of supervisors towards his subordinates. These are also called as techniques of supervision.

Effective supervisory relationships allow you to develop personally and professionally through trust, honesty, accountability and empathy. The relationships should be emotionally supportive, but challenge you to reflect on your practice and on the needs of the people you support.
