This form is used to protest the valuation and any penalties assessed on real and/or personal property, unless the county where the protest is to be filed has its own form, which may include an electronic version of this form.

For tax year 2020, the credit equaled 6% of property taxes paid to public schools in the calendar year. In tax year 2021, taxpayers were eligible for 25.3% refund on school district taxes. For tax year 2022, the credit rate is set at 30% of all property taxes paid towards public schools AND community colleges.

How much is the credit? The credit is equal to the percentage announced by the state each year multiplied by the amount of School District Property Tax paid during the year. For 2022, the percentage is 30%.

When should the protest be filed? Property Valuation Protest Form 422 or 422A must be filed between June 1 and June 30 of each year. Forms are available on the Nebraska Department of Revenue/Property Assessment website at revenue.nebraska.gov/about/forms/pad-forms, or at the county clerk's office.

Please note: Property valuation protests can be filed with the County Clerk's Office online, in person, or via mail from June 1 to June 30. Protest forms received before June 1 or postmarked after June 30 cannot be accepted as timely filed. Contact the Board of Equalization via email or by phone at 402-593-4433.

All real and personal property taxes, including taxes of centrally assessed railroad and public service companies, are due on December 31.

The maximum exempt amount is the taxable value of the homestead up to $40,000 or 100% of the county's average assessed value of single family residential property, whichever is greater.
