Exploring is a worksite-based program. It is part of Learning for Life's career education program for young men and women who are 14 through 20 years of age. Youth who are 13 years old and within 6 months of their 14th birthday can also register as Explorers.

The Explorer Rank is required of a former Boy Scout who has not earned the Second Class while in Boy Scouting. A Second Class Scout will automatically earn the Explorer Rank after passing only the Social and Vocational Activities requirements.

Explorers is our fourth section. It's for go-getting 14-18 year olds, and it's all about giving you more freedom to have adventures on your own terms. Scouts move on between the ages of 13 ½ and 14 ½, depending on when best suits.

Exploring is an interactive, worksite-based career education program of Learning for Life, an affiliate of the Boy Scouts of America.

The program offers hands-on career discovery through interactive activities that help youth pursue special interests, grow, and develop. Exploring groups for high school and older members are called Posts. Exploring groups for middle school members are called Clubs.

Exploring serves two different age groups, both coed. Exploring clubs serve middle schoolers, aged 10 – 14, in sixth through eighth grades. Exploring posts serve older youth 14 – 20 years old.
