Under the Nuclear Non-proliferation Import and Export Control Regulations, Canadian importers and exporters must obtain and comply with licences controlling the international transfer of nuclear and nuclear-related dual-use items.

Before importing commercial goods into Canada, as a business or an individual, you will need to obtain a Business Number (BN) issued by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) for an import/export account. This import/export account is free of charge and can usually be obtained in a matter of minutes.

In Canada, the possession and use of nuclear substances and radiation devices are regulated by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) in ance with the Nuclear Safety and Control Act (NSCA), its associated regulations and CNSC licences.

Non-Resident Importer Program (NRI) The Non-Resident Importer Program (NRI) is best suited for U.S. companies selling directly to Canadian consumers, retailers and businesses.

To obtain one, applicants must fill out the form Application for an Export and Import Permits Act (EIPA) File Number and provide DFAIT with the following: the applicant's name, title, firm name, address, postal code, telephone number, facsimile number and business number issued by Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

Before anyone can possess, use or store any type of nuclear substances, they require a licence issued by the CNSC.

To import products into Canada, you need a business number from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). You need to register for this number with CRA before you bring products into the country. If you already have a business number, contact CRA to make sure that it is set up for importing.

Applications for International Import Certificates may be submitted online using Export Controls On-Line (EXCOL) (from the EXCOL home page, click on International Import Certificate on the left-hand menu bar). Paper application forms are also available at on Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada website.
