How long does a DAR application take to process? Incorporated in 1896, the DAR has admitted more than 800,000 members. The application process takes about three months because a staff genealogist processes all applications in order of receipt, says Terry Ward, interim director of genealogy.

Life membership status becomes effective when an active member reaches the age of 65, upon completion of a special application and $1,300 payment to the Treasurer General.

The National Society cost for the application fee is $100 (US). The National Society dues are $35(US) The State Society cost would add to this amount.

Any woman 18 years or older who can prove lineal, bloodline descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence is eligible to join the DAR. She must provide documentation for each statement of birth, marriage and death, as well as of the Revolutionary War service of her Patriot ancestor.

The initial cost is $190 (as of June 2022) of which $110 is a one-time fee charged by the National Society and local chapter. Annual renewal for all three organizations is $80 total.
