In the Affidavit of Support sample, the sponsor has a household size of eight household members. The household includes the sponsor, sponsor's spouse, sponsor's two children, a dependent parent, principal beneficiary, beneficiary's spouse (derivative beneficiary) and the beneficiary's child (derivative beneficiary).

Form I-864 is accessible via the Consular Electronic Application Center. You can also file it directly with USCIS along with your I-130 or I-129F and send it to the USCIS Chicago lockbox. The National Visa Center (NVC) will review all Affidavits of Support submitted to ensure they are complete.

To qualify as a sponsor, you must demonstrate that you have an income of at least 125 percent of the current Federal Poverty Guidelines for your household size. The Federal poverty line, for purposes of this affidavit, is updated annually and can be found on Form I-864P, Poverty Guidelines, at .uscis.gov/I-864P.

Use this form to show that the applying immigrant has adequate means of financial support and is not likely to rely on the U.S. government for financial support.

Form I-864EZ, Affidavit of Support, is a shorter and simpler version of Form I-864, Affidavit of Support. But only petitioners that meet certain criteria may use this form.

While a friend or family member can certainly contact my office on someone else's behalf, the privacy release form must be signed by the United States Citizen needing the assistance.

We recommend completing Affidavit of Support forms on a computer or typewriter, with answers typed in CAPITAL letters. After the form is completed, upload, and submit the signed form to NVC via CEAC along with the sponsor's supporting financial evidence.
