Nucleic acid amplification testing (NAAT) is the recommended method for initial screening or testing for Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) and Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG) infections.

The mission of the Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) Control Program is to reduce the occurrence of STDs through disease surveillance, case and outbreak investigation, screening, preventive therapy, outreach, diagnosis, case management, and education.

Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) that can infect both women and men. In women, CT can infect the cervix, rectum, or throat. In men the urethra, rectum, or throat be infected. CT is the most common bacterial STD in the United States.

Trichomoniasis and chlamydia are two different infections. A bacterium causes chlamydia, while a parasite causes trich. Trichomoniasis is an extremely common and treatable infection.

The most commonly used type of chlamydia test is called a Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT). A NAAT detects the DNA of the bacteria that cause the chlamydia infection. You provide a sample of urine.
