The ST-5 exemption certificate grants your organization exemption from New Jersey sales and use tax on the organization's purchases of goods, meals, services, room occupancies and admissions that are directly related to the purposes of the organization, except purchases of energy and utility services.

The exempt government organization is encouraged to submit to the vendor a properly completed Sales Tax Exempt Purchaser Certificate (Form ST-5) with a copy of its Form ST-2 attached.

Several counties in the state — including DeKalb, Gwinnett, Cobb, Clayton and Fulton — offer a 100% exemption for seniors although all but Clayton place an income limit on the exemption. To be granted a homestead exemption: A person must actually occupy the home, and the home is considered their legal residence for all purposes. Persons that are away from their home because of health reasons will not be denied homestead exemption.

The (S4) is offered to those residents over the age of 65 as of January first the year they file for the homestead exemption. This exemption authorizes said individual to receive a tax exemption of $6,000 for county taxes, and $20,000 for school tax, and $100.00 off their sanitation bill each year.

S5 - Disabled Veteran Exemption Extends to the unremarried spouse or minor children provided they continue to claim homestead within the same county. Includes an annually-adjusted amount set by the U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs, off the assessed value on county, county bond, school, school bond, and recreation.
