Common metallic materials like nickel, iron, steel, and cobalt are all ferromagnetic and perfect candidates for magnetic particle testing.

Magnetic Particle Testing Techniques Magnetize the object. Run a magnetic current through the material. If defects are present they will create a secondary magnetic field, or flux leakage field. Spread metal particles on the object. Spread metal particles over the material or object in the form of a powder or liquid.

This method is used for the detection of surface and near-surface flaws in ferromagnetic materials and is primarily used for crack detection. The specimen is magnetised either locally or overall, and if the material is sound the magnetic flux is predominantly inside the material.

Advantages of the Magnetic Particle method of Non-Destructive Examination are: It is quick and relatively uncomplicated. It gives immediate indications of defects. It shows surface and near surface defects, and these are the most serious ones as they concentrate stresses.

Myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) is a non-invasive imaging test that shows how well blood flows through (perfuses) your heart muscle. It can show areas of the heart muscle that aren't getting enough blood flow. This test is often called a nuclear stress test. It can also show how well the heart muscle is pumping.

Magnetic particle inspection is an inspection method used to identify defects on the surface of ferromagnetic materials by running a magnetic current through it. It can also be used to detect defects just beneath the surface of materials.

An MPI test examines blood flow through your heart during exercise on a treadmill or exercise bicycle (“physical stress”) and while you rest. If you can't exercise well, you'll get a medicine (“chemical/pharmacologic stress”) to increase the blood flow to your heart muscle as if you were exercising.

Explanation: Magnetic particle testing works only on materials that can be magnetized easily. Ferromagnetic materials can be magnetized easily and these are also called as permanent magnets.

Magnetic particle inspection (MT) is a non-destructive testing method used to detect surface and slightly subsurface flaws in ferromagnetic materials (such as carbon steel). It is used routinely to inspect welds, piping, pressure vessels and structural steel components.

Magnetic particle testing is a form of NDT (non-destructive testing). It's where a magnetic field is introduced into an object using a dust. If done properly, the yield will be what's known as an “indication” of an issue that could meet removal from service criteria standards.
