Michigan Salvaged Car Inspections You'll need to provide the following at the inspection: The Application for Salvage Vehicle Inspection (Form TR-13A). All repair invoices and/or receipts for major component parts you purchased to repair the vehicle. Payment for the inspection fee.

Once the salvage vehicle inspector determines the vehicle has passed the inspection and completes and signs form TR-13B, Salvage Recertification, the vehicle is eligible for a Rebuilt Salvage title and on-road use/registration.

Before a salvage-titled vehicle can be registered for on-road use, it must be inspected by a certified Michigan Salvage Vehicle Inspector. Once the vehicle passes an inspection, the owner may apply for a rebuilt salvage title.

A salvage titled car may be reclassified as a “rebuilt title" car (or in some places “reconditioned” or “assembled”). To remove a salvage title, you will need to purchase the car, have it repaired, get it inspected, and file the correct paperwork.

A salvage title is issued for a vehicle that has become a "distressed vehicle". A vehicle becomes "distressed" when one or more major component parts have been wrecked, destroyed, damaged, stolen, or are missing to the extent that the total estimated damage is from 75% to less than 91% of its pre-damaged cash value.

Repairs Inspected: Additional Application for Salvage Vehicle Inspection (TR-13A) forms may be obtained by visiting a Secretary of State branch office; on the Secretary of State Web site (.Michigan.gov/sos); or by calling 1-888-SOS-MICH (1-888-767-6424).
