(a) In this section, "affidavit of adverse possession" means an affidavit that attests to the date the affiant took actual and visible possession of real property to establish a limitations period to support a claim of adverse possession of the property.

ADVERSE POSSESSION: 10-YEAR LIMITATIONS PERIOD. (a) A person must bring suit not later than 10 years after the day the cause of action accrues to recover real property held in peaceable and adverse possession by another who cultivates, uses, or enjoys the property.

Adverse possession is a process in which a person makes a legal claim to real property that did not belong to them originally. It is sometimes referred to as "squatters' rights." Certain circumstances and time limits must be met for an adverse possession claim.
