A year ago, the U.S. Department of Agriculture began mandating labeling for foods that are genetically modified or contain GMO ingredients. The national standard was endorsed by some farm industry groups, including the American Farm Bureau Federation.

Non-GMO farming helps keep the soil fertile and reduces soil erosion. It also inhibits the development of superweeds and superbugs, which are resistant to traditional, mild herbicides and pesticides. Without the need for toxic chemicals to control these pests, there are less toxic chemicals leaching into the soil.

Non-GMO certified products have been verified to have been grown and processed without genetic modification.

They regulate any biotechnology products that could pose a risk, as well as any organisms or products known or suspected to be risks or pose risks. They regulate all aspects, including but not limited to import, handling, movement, confinement, and disposal.

We hereby declare to the best of our knowledge that the product referenced above is not derived from or produced using Genetically Modified Organisms or their derivatives. This material does not contain DNA and or protein from genetic modification.

The organic label means free of GMOs and pesticides. Meanwhile, the non-GMO label indicates that the food product was not created with genetically modified organisms (GMOs). But again— this does not imply that the product is organic. Further, an item with a 'natural label' also doesn't guarantee that it's organic.

A Non-GMO Project Verified seal on animal products not only means that the animals themselves weren't genetically engineered but also that the animal feed was tested for major GMO crops (such as corn and soy) and contained less than 5 percent GMO material.
