Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Availability Completion Study: : The study is a review of the financial and technical requirements of a completed availability. The cost data and work items are reviewed to identify growth and new work to support future resourcing and planning of depot-level maintenance.

A CNO availability is more extensive than other maintenance availabilities and is scheduled with the approval of the CNO. During an EDSRA, the submarine is drydocked to enable hull, propulsion system, and modernization upgrades, allowing the submarine to remain fully operational for its planned service life.

(1) Selected Restricted Availability (SRA). An availability scheduled for the accomplishment of maintenance and selected modernization. (2) Docking Selected Restricted Availability (DSRA). An SRA expanded to include maintenance and selected modernization that requires dry-docking.

Post Shakedown Availability (PSA): is an industrial activity availability assigned to correct deficiencies found during the shakedown cruise or to accomplish other authorized improvements.

CNO availabilities, shorter than six months, are designed for short, labor-intensive accomplishment of specific levels of industrial maintenance and modernization. These types are considered Selected Restricted Availabilities (SRA) or Phased Maintenance Availabilities (PMA).

Class Maintenance Plan (CMP): The CMP contains the repair and assessment tasks that are required to be performed for a class of ships in support of life cycle maintenance and material readiness.

To identify the requirements for specific ships, NAVSEA coordinates the development of a “baseline availability work package,” which represents the technical requirements needed to ensure a ship reaches its expected service life and meets its operational commitments.
