What is the difference between a “Withdraw Passing” (WP) and a “Withdraw Failing” (WF)? Answer: A “WP” has no effect on the GPA whereas a “WF” is the same as an F and is calculated as a failing grade in the GPA.

On my transcript there is a WP for a grade. What does that mean? WP means Withdrawal Passing.

A WP (Withdrawn Pass) grade means the student was passing the course at the time of withdrawal. This grade does not affect the grade point average. WF. A WF (Withdrawn Fail) grade means the student was failing the course at the time of withdrawal.

Answer: A “WP” has no effect on the GPA whereas a “WF” is the same as an F and is calculated as a failing grade in the GPA. If your petition for a Late Withdrawal is approved, each course of the petition is assigned a “WP” or “WF” based on the professor(s) input.

Pro: A “W” (Withdrawal) is Better Than Failing Failing a class can negatively affect your academic record and future opportunities. In addition, when universities look at a “W” on a transcript, they are more lenient than if there is a series of “F” grades.

Is it better to withdraw from a class or fail the class in college? ing to Croskey, it is usually better to withdraw from a class. Exceptions may result for students with many withdrawals already if they can create a productive plan to retake the course after failing.

Grades of W/WP/WF (withdrawn), I (incomplete), P (progress), S (satisfactory), U (unsatisfactory), CR (credit), and NC (no credit) are not figured in the GPA. To calculate the GPA, add the grades points earned and divide that total by the number of hours attempted, those that are graded A, B, C, D, or F.
