In all districts, the school site Student Study Team (SST) meets regarding children for whom there are concerns. The team addresses the implementation and level of success of the general education classroom program modifications and available general education resources and programs, including categorical programs.

The Student Success Team, also commonly called a Student Study Team (SST) is a positive, team-oriented approach to assisting students with a wide range of concerns related to their school performance and experience.

SST stands for “Student Study Team.” SST meetings are for the purpose of planning interventions for general education students that are not making satisfactory progress.

The Student Study Team is a positive school‐wide early identification and early intervention process. As a team, the student, parents, teachers, school administrator and other related staff, work to identify the student's learning strengths and needs, upon which an intervention plan can be designed.

The SST process in education is not a special education function. A SST meeting can take place without your present and its recommendations may be implemented without your consent. An Individualized Education Plan or IEP is a special education process.

SST meetings usually last 30-45 minutes (sometimes longer) and include a learner's caregivers, teachers, and at least one school representative such as the Counselor, Learning Specialist, Program Director, and/or administrator.

RTI stands for Response to Intervention. SST stands for Student Support Team. They are the same thing with different names. It is a process that monitors and tracks student achievement to ensure appropriate instructional practices are meeting students instructional needs.
