AISI S100-16 (S2-20) 2020 edition: North American Specification for the Design of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members, 2016 Edition with Supplement 1. This standard governs the engineering design of cold-formed steel structures.

The AISI Standard for Cold-Formed Steel Framing – General Provisions requires a minimum metallic coating complying with the requirements of ASTM A1003, which in turn stipulates a minimum G-60 for structural and G-40 for non-structural framing members.

The American Iron and Steel Institute Committee on Framing Standards has developed AISI S200, the North American Standard for Cold-Formed Steel Framing - General Provisions, to address requirements for construction with cold-formed steel framing that are common to prescriptive and engineered design.

American Iron & Steel Institute. AISI steel grades are usually a four digit number where the first two digits indicate the alloy and the second two the the carbon content. For example 10xx are plain carbon steel, 41xx Chromium Molybdenum Steel and 43xx Nickel Chromium Molybdenum Steel.

AISI stands for American Iron and Steel Institute. Therefore, both grade 304 stainless steel and grade 316 conform to the American standard. The European equivalents are 1.4301 and 1.4401, respectively. You can probably see why people usually choose to go with American standards here.
