Section 3321.38 is the statute that prohibits a parent or guardian from failing to send a child to school. If you're charged with contributing to the unruliness or delinquency of a juvenile, then Ohio Rev. Code 2919.24 says you may be convicted of a 1st-degree misdemeanor.

Requirements for Dropping Out Legally Students in Ohio are required to stay in school until they turn 18 or get their diploma. Unlike many other states, Ohio doesn't allow younger students to drop out if they have their parents' permission or meet other requirements.

Withdrawal from traditional public or private schools: Notify the principal, in writing, that you are withdrawing your child from school for the purposes of home education. Send your letter certified mail (return receipt requested) and keep a copy on file.

A test taker who is 16 or 17 years of age must submit a consent form signed by either the parent, guardian or court official. Send all consent and withdrawal forms to: State of Ohio HSE Office.

A child between six and eighteen years of age is "of compulsory school age" for the purpose of sections 3321.01 to 3321.13 of the Revised Code.

In the United States, most states allow for the ability to drop out without parental consent at the age of 16. Those states which have raised their minimum dropout ages above 16 usually provide for exceptions of parental consent at ages 16 and 17.

All test takers must be Ohio residents, and are eligible for one voucher code per vendor; Age requirements for test takers 16, 17, and 18 years of age remain the same; and, Test takers who wish to take the GED Online Proctored (OP) exam, must take and pass the GED Ready.

A parent has the right to remove their child from online public schooling at any time. CHEO recommends that you first notify your child's teacher and then take the steps suggested for withdrawing from traditional school. Your child is not required to take an assessment before withdrawing.
