Each of the CASL-2 tests is individually administered and yields a standard score compared to other individuals of the same chronological age.

The CASL was standardized on 1,700 students, ages 3 through 21 years. The sample was chosen so that there were 200 three-year-olds, 200 four-year-olds, 700 students between 5 and 11 years old (100 per year), and 150 students for the remaining age groups (12–13 years, 14–15 years, 16–18 years, and 19–21 years).
