What is the minimum donor-advised fund?

What can you contribute to a donor-advised fund? Depending on the supporting organization and account type you choose, your minimal initial contribution could range anywhere from $0 to $250,000. You can contribute different kinds of assets to a donor-advised fund, such as: Cash.

A popular feature of a Schwab Charitable account is your ability to recommend how the assets are invested. Once your account is opened and funded with a minimum initial contribution of $5,000, you can select from an array of investment pools based on your specific goals.

Once you have logged in to your account, click on the "Contribute" tab or the "Fund Your Account" button. You may also use the Contribute to Your Account form. Transfer assets from another donor-advised fund account (with Schwab Charitable or elsewhere) to your Schwab Charitable donor-advised fund account.

We assess an annualized administrative fee of 0.60%, which is collected as part of the operating expenses of the investment pools. Fees for accounts of more than $500,000 that are invested in the investment pools will be reduced via a quarterly rebate payment to the account.

There is no minimum contribution requirement to open a Schwab Charitable core account. Once you make an irrevocable contribution, you can give to charities immediately or you may invest your charitable assets for potential tax-free growth.

Overall deductions for donations to donor-advised funds and other public charities are generally limited to 50% of your adjusted gross income (AGI). The limit increases to 60% of AGI for cash gifts, while the limit on donating appreciated non-cash assets held more than one year is 30% of AGI.

To get started, log in to your account and select Grant to Charity. Then, search for your favorite charities. Or review your grant history and simply Grant Again.

As a reminder, a contribution to a Schwab Charitable account is eligible for a current-year itemized income tax deduction; any subsequent receipts from charitable recipients are duplicative and shouldn't be used for tax- reporting purposes.
