Carleton is in Northfield, just 40 miles south of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. Often cited for its charm and livability, Northfield consistently ranks among the best college towns in the US.

The university offers 65 degree programmes in more than 50 academic disciplines, and is particularly renowned for its courses in journalism, public affairs, international affairs, architecture and technology.

Carleton is located a little more off the beaten path, so it may not offer the same level of convenience and accessibility compared to uOttawa. However, it's a beautiful campus and is known for providing more of a community with plenty of clubs and extracurricular activities that you can get involved in.

Today, the university sits on more than 100 acres, on a site between the Rideau River and the Rideau Canal, just a short distance from downtown Ottawa. The university provides an excellent education and experience to its more than 24,000 full- and part-time students at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Carleton has a 150-acre campus located west of Old Ottawa South, close to The Glebe and Confederation Heights. It is bounded to the North by the Rideau Canal and Dow's Lake and to the South by the Rideau River.
