(Wethersfield, CT) – Connecticut Department of Labor (CTDOL) Commissioner Danté Bartolomeo announced today that the maximum benefit rate for unemployment insurance filers will increase from $703 per week to $721 per week; a change that will apply to new claims effective on or after October 1, 2023.

Unemployment applications are reviewed for eligibility on a case-by-case basis prior to benefits being paid. If an application is denied, the filer may file an appeal. Benefits are not available to all workers.

What is the FPUC? Will I receive this additional $300 every week? This additional payment will be an additional benefit payment each week that you receive any of the benefits listed above, starting with week ending January 2, 2021 through week ending September 4, 2021.

The answer is usually “no,” but there are eight reasons why you may be able to receive unemployment benefits after quitting. But you must now be able and available to work full-time work and meet all other eligibility requirements.

Claim length Your unemployment claim is valid for one year from the date it is filed. If otherwise eligible, you are entitled to 26 weeks of benefits within this 52-week period. A new claim can be filed upon expiration of this benefit year if you are still unemployed.

Leaving your job for "urgent, compelling, and necessitous circumstances" related to family or medical reasons can make you eligible for unemployment benefits in Massachusetts.
