South Carolina does not ask you to report every accident. In fact, you are only required to immediately notify police after a vehicle accident resulting in injury or death.

That document is called an “FR-10” by the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), and you need to turn it in to your insurance agent immediately or face legal penalties.

If you've been in a collision, you may request a copy of the collision report online or by completing the Request for Copy of Collision Report (SCDMV Form FR-50) and taking it to any SCDMV branch office or mailing it to the address on the form.

The SCDMV keeps track of motor vehicle crashes throughout the state. You must send the completed form FR-309 to the SCDMV within 15 days of the collision to report the accident. The form requires information about: The date, time, and location of the accident.

Your six-step guide The name, gender, date of birth and job title of the injured party; The date the accident happened; The date the accident was reported; The name and job title of the person logging the accident; Whether or the not the injured party is an expectant mother; and.

South Carolina is a fault state for accidents. Each victim may claim compensation from the responsible party for their losses. There is no minimum injury level or no-fault insurance required. Drivers must carry liability insurance along with uninsured motorist coverage equal to minimum liability coverage amounts.

For example, if you were in a car accident in South Carolina, you have up to 15 days from the date of the collision to file an incident report.

South Carolina law requires any auto accident that causes at least $1,000 in property damage or results in injuries or death to be reported to authorities. Not reporting a serious accident can result in a range of possible penalties, such as (but not limited to) license suspensions and criminal hit-and-run charges.
