Author contributions. Author contributions. Use this form to specify the contribution of each author of your manuscript. A distinction is made between five types of contributions: Conceived and designed the analysis; Collected the data; Contributed data or analysis tools; Performed the analysis; Wrote the paper.

Divide the number of authors by 100% and estimate whether and to what extent each author provided more or less work than the others. Thank you all for your responses. In my opinion, the issue of authors credit is generally subjective and relies on trust and honesty.

1. Have made a substantial contribution to the concept or design of the article; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the article; AND 2. Drafted the article or revised it critically for important intellectual content; AND 3. Approved the version to be published; AND 4.

Contributors who have contributed materially to the paper but whose contributions do not justify authorship should be described clearly in the contributorship statement; for example, “served as scientific advisors”, “critically reviewed the study proposal”, “collected data” or “provided and cared for study patients”.

A simple and accurate measure: percentage contributions A possible starting point is to divide 100% by the number of authors and then estimate whether and to what extent each author provided more or less work than the others.

As I typically put it, authors should have (1) substantially contributed to the conception and design of the article and interpreting the relevant literature, (2) drafted the article or revised it critically for important intellectual content, and (3) published or can otherwise be considered experts on the topic.

Including authors who have not contributed to the research in the manuscript and excluding authors who have contributed to the research is unacceptable author contribution.
