A “blue card” is issued to an individual who has successfully completed an MSHA course for Part 48 instructors and has become approved to train miners at underground and surface areas of underground miners. The blue card displays the (MIIN) Instructor Surface (IS) or Instructor Underground (IU).

Part 46 regulates the training and retraining of miners engaged in shell dredging or employed at sand, gravel, surface stone, surface clay, colloidal phosphate, surface limestone, marble, granite, sandstone, slate, shale, traprock, kaolin, cement, feldspar, and lime mines.

Part 46 or Part 48. Part 48 applies to all underground mines and all other surface mines that are not included in Part 46. Part 46 applies to the following types of mines: sand, gravel, surface stone, surface clay, surface limestone, colloidal phosphate, or shell dredging operations.

40 Hour New Miner: Training provides 32 hours of introductory training to prepare individuals to work at an underground mine operation. Topics include introductory New Miner, 8 hours of onsite underground training and a First Aid/CPR certification.

Our 8-hour new miner training course includes everything you need to start working at a Part 46 mine. Once you complete the course, your employer will provide an additional 16 hours of training at the mine to teach you about site-specific hazards.

24-Hour Part 48 New Miner Training Part 48. Required training also known as training mandated by MSHA Law includes a minimum of: 40 hours – New Underground Miners. 24 hours – New Surface Miners.
