Cadets typically range in age from 12 to 18 years old. Adult Volunteers typically range from 18 to 65 years old.

Your typical week will include Physical Training (PT) 3 days a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 5:45-6:45 a.m., with some Drill and Ceremony (marching) practice for about 15 minutes afterwards.

How fit do I have to be to become a cadet? You must be sufficiently physically and mentally fit to work at sea and pass an ENG1 medical examination (see next answer).

Becoming an Army Cadet has heaps of benefits. The most obvious being that you get to take part in loads of exciting and challenging activities such as fieldcraft, adventure training, first aid, music, sports and shooting, to name but a few.

The training is based around the knowledge you are expected to have learned at cadets, so no, I would not in any way claim it is 'very hard', but it is challenging and interesting, and as such, very rewarding.

Typically cadets will attend the squadron twice a week for around 2 and a half hours a night. Outside of these evenings, there are activities to do at weekends and in the school holidays. The amount of time a cadet wants to commit to is up to them.

Most squadrons meet weekly for about 2 to 2 1/2 hours, and offer special activities on the weekends and during the summer. You can find the meeting day and time of your local squadron by using the online unit locator.

There will be costs for attending weekend training camps, annual camps and other activities, but we try to keep these as low as possible. Parade nights in detachments are free, but some detachments may request a small weekly subscription to go towards detachment events and visits.
