Generally, the range for CO2 concentration of flue gas is around 8-11% on a premix burner. At the same time, CO2 within permissible limits is usually less than 250 ppm.

The ideal CO content in a flue gas should be below 100 ppm air-free, although the permissible limit in the stack is 400 ppm air-free. If the CO rises and becomes unstable between 1 ppm and 400 ppm during the combustion process, the heater should be turned off or sent for testing and repairs.

The reading on the combustion analyzer will display the oxygen percentage as a percent of the total flue gas volume. For instance, a reading of 4% O2 means oxygen comprises 4% of the volume of flue gases. A typical reading would be 2% to 6% (see Figure 2).

It's normal for most modern furnaces to have a CO level of less than 50 PPM in the flue, and older natural draft units can safely skate by with levels as high as 200 PPM. However, a furnace with CO levels higher than 200 PPM in the flue should never be in operation without being adjusted or repaired first.
