The Chicago Botanic Garden is a public-private partnership. It is owned by the Forest Preserve District of Cook County and operated by the Chicago Horticultural Society. Forest Preserve District tax support provides one-third of the Garden's annual operating budget.

Michael Olbrich dies. The City votes to name the park in his honor. The City of Madison takes over the park system designed by John Olin.

Park History. Olbrich Park was formerly known as Lake Front Park and remains one of Madison's largest lakefront parks with 16 acres of land. In 1921, Michael B. Olbrich purchased 3,500 feet of Lake Monona shoreline that was acquired by the City of Madison on July 22, 1921.
