Light sources produce photons from another energy source, such as heat, chemical reactions, or conversion of mass or a different frequency of electromagnetic energy, and include light bulbs and stars like the Sun.

The sun is our main source of light.

Natural sources of light include the sun, stars, fire, and electricity in storms. There are even some animals and plants that can create their own light, such as fireflies, jellyfish, and mushrooms. This is called bioluminescence.

Sun, stars, lightning, jellyfish, fireflies, glowworms, bush fires, angler fish, and other natural light sources are examples.

Light energy is used to help us see – either naturally using the Sun or fire, or with manmade objects like candles or lightbulbs. Light energy is also used by plants, which capture the light energy from the Sun and use it to produce their food.

The main source of natural light on Earth is the Sun. Historically, another important source of light for humans has been fire, from ancient campfires to modern kerosene lamps. With the development of electric lights and power systems, electric lighting has effectively replaced firelight.

Electromagnetic radiation, such as light, is generated by changes in movement (vibration) of electrically charged particles, such as parts of 'heated' molecules, or electrons in atoms (both processes play a role in the glowing filament of incandescent lamps, whereas the latter occurs in fluorescent lamps).

The objects that emit their own light or are sources of light are called luminous objects and the property is known as luminosity. Examples of luminous objects are the sun, the stars and a burning candle.
