In terms of processing time, the BWC maintains a 28-day turnaround time for all Ohio workers' compensation claims. Within that 28-day period, the BWC will review the FROI and make a decision as to approval or denial of the underlying claim.

CALCULATION OF A PERMANENT PARTIAL DISABILITY AWARD: PPD is calculated by multiplying the impairment rating assessed in the medical report findings by two. That number is then multiplied by an amount equal to two-thirds of the AWW, up to a maximum amount for the year of the injury.

These payments are typically paid every other week and are based on a percentage of the injured worker's earnings before the injury. In Ohio, workers can receive up to 66 2/3 percent of their pre-injury average weekly wage, not to exceed the state set maximum.

This program allows both public and private employers with better-than-average claim histories to join together through a sponsoring organization. We then rate the group as one employer. By participating in group-experience rating, employers may enjoy much lower premium rates than they could attain on their own.

Permanent Partial Disability. Permanent Partial Disability or PPD is money paid to an injured worker who suffers a permanent disability in a workers compensation injury claim that is not total. It is similar to the concept of pain and suffering in a personal injury claim.

Partial disability = Key functions of your occupation, limiting your ability to work full-time in your previous capacity and earning level. Total disability = All of the duties of your occupation or any occupation (depending on your insurance policy terms), preventing you from gainful earnings.

A PPD award is paid at the rate of 66 ⅔ percent of the injured worker's average weekly wage in a one-time lump sum payment. Even though a PPD award is paid in a lump sum payment, the award is not a settlement of your claim. In fact, payment of a PPD award extends the life of your claim for an additional 5 years.

Your doctor will assign a disability rating to each affected body part on a scale of zero (0) percent to 100 percent.
