Arabic, which also belongs to the Afroasiatic family, is spoken in some areas of Ethiopia. Many Muslim Ethiopians are also able to speak Arabic because of their religious background. English is the most widely spoken foreign language which is also taught in many schools.

Amharic is considered a Holy Language for the Rastafari religion, whose name itself comes from Amharic words Ras, literally signifying 'head', and having a similar meaning to the title 'Duke', and Täfäri, the name used by Haile Selassie I prior to his reign as Ethiopian regent and emperor until 1974.

Also known as Amarigna, Amarinya, there are 25 million plus speakers of Amharic in various countries of the world, mainly in Ethiopia, & also in Eritrea, ing to Ethnologue. It is the official and working language of Ethiopia.

Amharic is a Semitic language, like Arabic, and it has a similar structure of consonantal roots, with prefixes, suffixes, and inserted vowels that create the meaning. But other than this basic structure it is not even close to be mutually intelligible.

Arabic is in the Afroasiatic language family, specifically the Semitic branch. This is the very same branch that Hebrew, Amharic, Aramaic, Maltese, and many other languages with historic and literary weight are part of.

They are not mutually intelligible. Amharic and Arabic are very distantly related languages. The only thing in common between them is being part of the larger Afro-Asiatic language family, so there are some common words and vocabularies which are shared between them and other Afro-Asiatic languages as well.

Amharic is an Afro-Asiatic language of the Southwest Semitic group and is related to Geʿez, or Ethiopic, the liturgical language of the Ethiopian Orthodox church; it also has affinities with Tigré, Tigrinya, and the South Arabic dialects.
