The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) aims to foster international trade and commerce to promote and protect open markets for goods and services and the free flow of capital.

(a) Five functions of Chambers of Commerce: (i) They assist the development of Commerce, trade and industry. (ii) They provide support or oppose legislation which they feel will affect their members. (iii) They provide information to members on their line of businesses. (iv) They organize trade fairs, exhibitions etc.

The main tasks of the chambers are foreign trade promotion, vocational training, regional economic development, and general services to their members. The chambers were given responsibilities of public administration in various fields by the state which they exercise in order management.

The membership, acting collectively, elects a board of directors and/or executive council to set policy for, and guide the workings of, the chamber. The board or executive committee then hires a chief executive (various titles), plus an appropriate and affordable number of staff to run the organization.
