In general, exterior work, fence, siding, windows, roofing, and concrete require a permit. Any interior work that requires a structural change will require a permit.

An application for a Certificate of Occupancy must be filled with the Building Department and the inspection must be completed before the Business license application can be approved. Fee for Certificate of Occupancy: $300 for businesses under 50,000 square feet. $400 for businesses over 50,000 square feet. 5.

This must be a written request, which includes the building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, boiler and elevator permit numbers, the plan review submission number and the Bureau of Fire Services project number (for Schools only).

Application for commercial U&O permits may be made in person at DPS' offices or you may file electronically using DPS' eServices. If you wish to file electronically you MUST complete the U&O certificate application and upload it with your building permit documents. You may pay for your permit online or in person.
