There is generally not a deadline for a Texas court of appeals to issue an opinion. Court of appeals justices often endeavor to issue opinions with 90 days after the date that the appeal was submitted (although sometimes it takes much longer than this).

At or before the hearing, give the judge a “proposed order.” A proposed order is a document describing the things you want the judge to order. Make sure you give a copy of the proposed order to the lawyer or person on the other side of the case.

You need a final order signed by the judge. You can't file an appeal if the judge hasn't decided the case. Nor can you appeal a child custody decision that is temporary. Perhaps, you and the other parent settled your case.

A “stipulation” is an agreement between two parties that is submitted to the judge for approval. It eliminates the need to go to court and have a judge decide an issue. A written “Stipulation and Order” includes the parties' agreement, both of their notarized signatures, and the judge's signature.

A proposed order is the order you would like the court to sign if your request is granted.

If you have been served with a citation and petition, there is a 20-day deadline to file your answer. To determine the deadline, find the day you were served on a calendar, count out 20 more days (including weekends and holidays) then go to the next Monday.
