Case conferences can be used to identify or clarify issues regarding a client or collateral's status, needs, and goals; to review activities including progress and barriers towards goals; to map roles and responsibilities; to resolve conflicts or strategize solutions; and to adjust current service plans.

Case Management Conference. A case management conference (CMC) is when both sides, the lawyers (if any), and the judge meet to talk about how to handle the case. Most civil cases have a CMC and it usually happens between 120 and 180 days from filing of the lawsuit.

Effective chairing of the conference involves: Introduce the participants, explain the chair's role and the role of other participants. Discuss the points outlined in the plan, as well as other issues that emerge. Ensure all participants have an opportunity to contribute to the discussion.

A case conference form can help document the participants, topics discussed, and follow up needed as a result of a case conference. When distributed immediately to attendees, the form reminds each participant of the roles and activities they've agreed to perform.

In most case conferences, therapists present their clinical work to colleagues in their professional community, be it as part of a discussion group within an institute, a meeting amongst colleagues set up for this purpose, or a working group within a public clinic.

To be successful a case conference should be as interactive as possible. This means that it must engage the audience at every level. Co-ordinating the interaction between the presenter and the audience is absolutely vital and it is an active not passive role.
