Unlicensed child care programs can provide child care for up to 6 children – not including their own – at any given time. Unlicensed providers are not monitored by the Alberta government or licensed agencies. Examples of unlicensed care include: nannies.

Parents will see reduced fees starting in early 2022, and can expect to pay an average of: $10 per day if they earn up to $119,999. $11 to $17 per day if they earn between $120,000 and $179,999. $22.19 per day if they earn $180,000 and above.

A family earning $120,000 per year with one infant attending a family day program would be eligible for partial subsidy. If the fee at the program is $835 per month, the day care program will receive $350/month in an affordability grant and the family would be eligible for $253/month.

The Alberta child and family benefit (ACFB) is a tax-free amount paid to families that have children under 18 years of age. For July 2022 to December 2022, you may be entitled to receive the following amounts: $1,330 ($110.83 per month) for the first child. $665 ($55.41 per month) for the second child.
