(11) The term “military unaccompanied housing” means military housing intended to be occupied by members of the armed forces serving a tour of duty unaccompanied by dependents and transient housing intended to be occupied by members of the armed forces on temporary duty.

Soldiers' spouses and dependents can live on-base with them in family housing. Parents, extended family, and friends cannot live on base but are welcome to visit.

All single airmen in paygrades E-1 to E-3, and E-4s with less than three years of service, are provided unaccompanied housing. Air Force policy allows E-4s and above with at least three years of service to live off base, regardless of the on-base dormitory occupancy rate.

Unaccompanied personnel housing (UPH)—known by a host of terms, including barracks, dormitories, billeting, and quarters—is where most junior enlisted per- sonnel without dependents are housed during their initial training and first few years as members of the armed forces.

Unaccompanied Housing for Single Sailors. Navy Housing is dedicated to providing suitable, affordable and safe living quarters for single or unaccompanied Sailors who live in Unaccompanied Housing (UH).

Navy requires single service members with paygrades E-4 and below to live in the barracks. Air Force requires single service members with paygrades E-4 and below and with less than three years of service to live in the barracks, or dorms as they like to call them.
