A “folded self mailer” is a single sheet or multiple sheets of paper folded together without binding or stitching (with the exception of stitches on the inside folded edge). It qualifies for letter rates but isn't mailed in an envelope and isn't bound.

For tri-folded self-mailers, the mailing address must be on the middle panel, with the final fold creating the non-address side. What the post office calls oblong self-mailers must have the final fold on the right side, or 'leading edge'.

USPS Postcard Size To qualify as a postcard, a mail piece must be rectangular and meet these dimensions: At least 3-1/2” high X 5” long X 0.007” thick. No more than 4-1/4” high X 6” long X 0.016” thick. Have finished corners that do not exceed a radius of 0.125”

Brochures or other folded pieces must be rectangular in shape. To qualify for letter rates, they must be a minimum of 3.5” high but no larger than 6” high when folded. They must be a minimum of 5” long but no larger than 10.5” long when folded. Brochures larger than these requirements are subject to surcharge fees.

To qualify for mailing at the price for letters, a piece must be: Rectangular. No more than 11.5 inches long x 6.125 inches high x 0.25 inch thick. At least 5 inches long x 3.5 inches high x 0.007 inch thick.

The standard postcard size is 4” x 6” or 5 x 7”.

Bi-fold and tri-fold: Weight up to 3 ounces requires two non-perforated tabs on the top edge of the piece within 1 inch of the edges. Quarter-fold: Weight up to 3 ounces requires three non-perforated tabs, one on the leading edge and one on the trailing edge within 1 inch of the top edges.

Envelopes must be rectangular and made of paper to qualify for letter prices. Your envelope can be a maximum of 11-1/2" long x 6-1/8" high. (A standard No. 10 envelope is 9-1/2" long x 4-1/8" high.) You can fold what you put in your envelope, but it needs to stay flat—no more than 1/4" thick.
