What is PEAK? PEAK is an assessment tool developed by Dr. Mark Dixon to teach language and skills to children with autism using a relational training approach. Typically, children with Autism excel in rote memorization but lack in abstract thinking.

The PEAK may be appropriate for children birth to 16 years and can also be used with adults. Because the PEAK expands beyond the scope of skills taught in the ABLLS-R or VB-MAPP, it may be a good choice for children who have already moved quickly through skill acquisition in those assessments.

PEAK contains four comprehensive training modules: Direct Training and Generalization emphasize a contingency-based framework of language development, and Equivalence and Transformation emphasize an approach to language development consistent with Relational Frame Theory.

*What ages are most appropriate for using PEAK? 18 months of age through the teenage years. *How is PEAK different from other ABA assessments? PEAK provides a much more comprehensive assessment across a wider range of language abilities and includes a corresponding curriculum.

The PEAK Relational Training System was designed as an assessment instrument and treatment protocol for addressing language and cognitive deficits in children with autism.

Complete each item on the assessment. For each item presented to the participant, circle “1” for a correct response or circle “0” for an incorrect response. Example responses are provided. Add the total number of correct responses for each section to sum the score for that relation.

The main purpose of the PEAK assessment is to inform the therapist where to begin the modules in the PEAK relational training system. All modules are important to the program, but each one takes the child through the specific areas of greatest concern.
