A full teaching load is considered in the range of 16 to 21 credit hours or 18 to 22 contact hours per week each semester unless otherwise approved. Beyond the teaching load, a full-time faculty load includes office hours, committee work, student mentoring, and other duties as assigned.

A 3:3 load with two preps means that you teach 3 sections per semester but two sections are of the same course. For example, you might teach two sections of Calculus I and one section of ordinary differential equations for a 3 course load with two preps.

The offered teaching/research load is 50-50 which sounds OK in theory. In reality though, this translates to a minimum of 3 and an average of 4 full courses per year (38+ class hours on classes of about 100-120 students) plus supervision of bachelor's and master's candidates as well as administrative tasks.

4/4 means four courses in the fall, and four courses in the spring. I used to teach 3(fall)/3(spring) and then got changed to 3/2. Then I got a new job and I teach 2/2. Pretty much, it doesn't matter whether I'm teaching a 4 credit class or a 3 credit class, I still teach 2 courses each semester.
