Although it is effective, desalination can be complex, energy-intensive, and expensive.

The seawater desalination plant process is to convert sea water into fresh water. Firstly seawater(raw water) is delivered by intake pump and sent into desalination plant.

Pretreatment is the first stage of the desalination process. When seawater arrives at the plant, it goes through a pretreatment process to remove algae, organic materials and other particles. Seawater is pumped into multimedia filter tanks, which include layers of anthracite and sand atop a bed of gravel.

DESALINATION PROCESSES Reverse osmosis. Solar distillation. Electrodialysis. Nanofiltration. Gas hydrate formation.

The most common desalination processes are distillation and reverse osmosis. There are several methods. Each has advantages and disadvantages but all are useful. The methods can be divided into membrane-based (e.g., reverse osmosis) and thermal-based (e.g., multistage flash distillation) methods.

Seawater enters the plant through screens that filter out larger material. Pre-treatment filters remove smaller particles. Filtered seawater is pumped into the reverse osmosis building. Waste from the pre-treatment filtration process are dried using a centrifuge and either reused or removed for disposal.

The International Desalination Association (IDA) tracks approximately 10,000 desalination facilities worldwide. Each of these facilities has at least one machine capable of producing more than 13,210 gal per day (50 m3/d) using one of several desalination processes.
