Warrant Officers outrank all enlisted members, but are not required to have a college degree.

Between Enlisted and regular Officers sits a strange thing called a “Warrant Officer.” Warrant Officers get saluted and are called “sir,” but they have their own pay grades and do not receive their rank by commission . . .

Mission and use. Army warrant officers are technical experts, combat leaders, trainers, and advisors. They serve in 17 branches and 67 warrant officer specialties, spanning the Active Component (i.e., Regular Army), the Army National Guard, and the U.S. Army Reserve.

The prime candidate for WO has 5 - 8 years of active federal service (AFS) and meets all other prerequisites. You can apply regardless of AFS but require a waiver if you have 12 years or more (Technicians) or not exceeded 8 years or more (Aviator) of AFS.

The regular Warrant Officer Selection Program requires a minimum of eight years of enlistment upon date of appointment (not commissioned), proof and/or demonstration of their exceedingly technical proficiency within their MOS field, and achieved the rank and pay grade of sergeant (E-5) or above.

Becoming a warrant officer is very competitive, confirmed Brumfield as he proceeded to specify that there are only 43 MOSs available in the cohort and some have higher requirements. NCOs interested must meet the minimum basic requirements mandated by the cohort.
