The DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest, created in 1934, is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. This award recognizes and rewards individuals who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities.

The award honors any student in elementary, middle, or high school who has shown by their words and actions that they possess the qualities and characteristics we hope to instill in all our students. The American Citizenship Award pin allows you to reward students who: Participate in school and/or community service.

The national winner will be invited to Washington, D.C. to attend DAR Continental Congress and will be awarded a $5,000 scholarship, an inscribed silver bowl, and certificate. Each of the eight (8) national division (multi-state groups) winners will receive a cash award in the amount of $500.

CITIZENSHIP. American Citizenship Award Program is presented, at your discretion, to any student in elementary, middle, or high school. The award is meant to recognize students who possess strength of character, are school or community leaders, promote citizenship, or other similar characteristics of leadership.

Reports that students perceived good citizenship as the ability to make wise decisions and be concerned for others. Concludes that students consider responsibility, ability to question, and moral behavior as moderately important. ( DK)

Students have participated in the DAR Junior American Citizens program since 1901. By reaching out to students in grade K-12 across the United States, the program fosters the idea that the rights and responsibilities of citizenship can and should be taught from an early age.

The Outstanding Citizenship Award is designed to recognize each year- a group. an individual (adult and youth category) an individual for the 'Lifetime Achievement Award'

Each of the sixteen (16) national division (multi-state groups) winners will receive a cash award in the amount of $500. Two national winners will be invited to Washington, DC to attend Continental Congress and will be awarded $5,000 scholarships, inscribed silver bowls and certificates.
